How Karkhana works

Wholesale buying has its own vocabulary, and most of it is assumed rather than explained. Here is what the terms on a listing mean, and what this marketplace does and does not do for you.

What does GST-verified mean on Karkhana?
Before a manufacturer's listings go live, their GSTIN and PAN are checked against official records, and the GSTIN's checksum and registered state are validated. It confirms the business is really registered and that the name on the registration matches the seller. It is a check on the registration, not an inspection of the goods or the factory, and it is not a guarantee of quality.
What is MOQ, and why does every listing have one?
MOQ is the minimum order quantity — the smallest amount a manufacturer will produce or dispatch for that product. Factories price around production runs, so a smaller order costs them proportionally more to make. The MOQ is shown on every listing before you add anything to a cart.
Why does the price change with quantity?
Listings use slab pricing: the unit price falls as the quantity rises, in bands set by the manufacturer. Each band is published on the listing, so you can see the price at 100 units and at 1,000 units before you enquire. The cart applies the band your quantity falls into.
When does the supplier get paid?
Payment is held after you pay and is released to the manufacturer only after the goods are delivered. That is the point of ordering on Karkhana rather than transferring money directly to a supplier you have not worked with before.
Do I need a GSTIN to buy?
No. A GSTIN is optional. If you supply one, your invoice is raised as a B2B invoice and you can claim input tax credit. Without one, you are invoiced as an unregistered buyer. Either way you receive a proper GST invoice.
How is GST calculated on my order?
By place of supply. If you and the manufacturer are in the same state, the invoice carries CGST and SGST; if you are in different states, it carries IGST at the equivalent combined rate. Each line shows its own rate and tax amount, and freight is apportioned across the lines it relates to.
Who ships the goods, and how do I track them?
The manufacturer arranges dispatch themselves and enters the transporter and tracking reference against your order. You will see it on the order page and in your order history. Karkhana does not operate its own logistics.
Can I order a sample before committing to the MOQ?
Where a manufacturer offers samples, the listing shows the sample price and how many units it covers. Sample terms are set by the manufacturer, not by Karkhana.
What if I cannot find what I need in the catalogue?
Post a requirement. You describe the product, the quantity and where you need it delivered, and verified manufacturers in that category respond with a price, a minimum quantity and a lead time. It is free and you are under no obligation to buy.
Does Karkhana handle imports or exports?
No. Karkhana is domestic only — both the buyer and the manufacturer are in India, and all pricing and tax handling assume an India-to-India sale.

Still unsure what you need? Post a requirement and let verified manufacturers quote against it.
